Isaiah 41:10 New King James Version (NKJV)

10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Today I decree and declare that I will not fear!

Fear has always had its ugly hands wrapped tightly around my neck where I could barely breath in faith. I have allowed fear to keep me trapped in the darkness of not being able to succeed. Fear has always been the procrastination that hinders my focus of being the very best me I could ever be. I will admit that I have lost and wasted so much time being afraid of what life had to offer me. I have been afraid of what others would say about me. I have been afraid of how others would view me. I have been very fearful of getting out there and doing what I must do in life and falling flat onto my face. I was terrified of succeeding and not being able to live up to whatever my first major success could be. My biggest fear was failing. I was afraid of my very own self. Fear has always been my excuse. No more excuses.

“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.” -Og Mandino

I don’t want to continue to let failure overtake me, because failure to me is giving into my fear. I have heard multiple times to walk by faith and not by sight. Step out on faith is what everyone says. They make it sound so easy. And it should be easy, right? I have to think to myself, what’s really wrong with me? Why can’t I just do what I am supposed to do and do it afraid. Meaning, do it no matter what in spite of my fear. I am a poet. I am supposed to be able to get up at the drop of a dime and share my poetry with others wherever I go. Sadly, I have been unable to build up the nerve to recite my poetry in front of others, even my friends. I have dreamed of being a spoken word poet for years. However, when I envision walking onto that stage, I allow fear to shake my heart. I become nervous and very fearful that I will mess up and make mistakes. I am terribly frightened. I have graced the stage a total of three times in my lifetime and I have been writing poetry since I was 12 years old. How can I become a prolific world-renowned poet by being afraid to perform my craft?

Dedication, determination, motivation, focus and drive are a few of the things I pray about every day. I find myself asking God for these things hoping He would just make me whole. I tell Him that I am thankful for my dedication, my determination, my motivation, my focus and my drive and still I am afraid. Over the weekend, I changed the way I pray. Yes, I still ask of and am thankful for all these things, but now I pray for God to relinquish all my fears. I want to be able to get on the stage this Sunday and perform my latest poem for the crowd. I want people to hear my voice and listen to what I have to say. I want the crowd to clap for me and show me their appreciation. I want to get up there and know that I was able to do it fearlessly. I am courageous. I am fearless!

My fear also stops me from having confidence in myself. Fear controls how I view my appearance also. Confidence starts with how you feel about yourself inside and out. I will admit that my confidence level has been very low. I have been told that I have very low self-esteem. I don’t want to have low self-esteem. I want to have high self-esteem. I want my self-esteem to be so high, you would have to travel into space to bring it back down. I would love to have how I view myself and the way I speak about myself to positively coincide with each other. Often times I find that my words don’t match my feelings. I say that I am this and I am that and then I put myself down further than an earthworm. I speak positive affirmations daily and wonder why they don’t work. Well, it is because my actions aren’t in line with how I speak. My thoughts don’t remain on a consistent level. My frequencies always seem to be different. No longer do I want to be afraid of looking good and feeling good about myself. I want to be able to look into the mirror daily and see what everyone else sees in me, a beautifully talented human being. I want to be able to accept the compliments of others knowing that I feel the same about myself too. What’s the point in hearing people tell you how great you are if you don’t believe in your own greatness? It is up to me to believe in myself and I want to believe 100 percent. I walk high with confidence. I believe in myself!

This morning I was on a prayer call. The call focused on fear. I swear this call was right on time and it spoke to me so clearly. We have to listen to the word of God and not the lies of the enemy. We have to choose faith. We have to declare and decree that, I will not fear! It isn’t about praying to God to be fearless, it is about believing in God in which there is no fear. Amen! I decree and I declare on this day that I will not Fear! And it is so!!

All of my fears and all of my doubts, I know that this too shall pass! For I am victorious and I am greatness!
